On records, as i pen down this article today 24th Dec 2021, the mental health sector in Ghana has nothing good to write about, taking into consideration the status of the sector from the way I look at it today.

With a population of nearly 30 million people, WHO estimates that approximately 13% of the population in Ghana suffers from a mental disorder, of which 3% suffer from a severe mental disorder and the other 10% suffer from a moderate to mild mental disorder.

A couple of years back, Anas Aremeyaw Anas rocked the sector with an expose that unearth the unthinkable happenings behind closed doors at Accra’s main mental hospital located at Asylum down.

The expose brought to light the unmeasurable challenges facing the sector, an opportunity that threw more light on what solutions the sector needed urgently for a facelift.

But then, looking forward into the very near future, based on what I know, I can say on authority that the future looks very bright for the mental health sector in Ghana.

It looks bright because ML Brookshire née Blay-Miezah has taken a bold step by grabbing the bull by the horn to change the story of the sector.

A couple of weeks ago, ML Brookshire née Blay-Miezah made it known through an official release, her intentions to establish a clubhouse in Ghana.
